Federal Funding Update May 2025:
The IMSD program at UC Davis has been cancelled by the federal government. The National Institute of Health (NIH) sent notices of termination to IMSD programs across the country, and the NIH IMSD program will not be funded any longer.
The IMSD program started at UC Davis in 1998, directed by Dr. Barbara A. Horwitz, a Distinguished Professor Emerita from the NPB Department, and later by Dr. Aldrin Gomes, Professor at NPB. Through all these years, this program has funded, trained, and mentored hundreds of brilliant students at UC Davis. We are extremely proud of all our students and their ongoing contributions to science and the world. Their accomplishments and successes are what have demonstrated the effectiveness of the NIH IMSD program at UC Davis and kept this program competitive and funded for so many consecutive years, including our last renewal in early 2025.
We are deeply thankful to the Administrative Coordinating Council of Deans (ACCD) at UC Davis for their financial support to supplement student stipends and to enhance the IMSD Program since 2020. We also extend our thanks to the IMSD Executive Committee members and all our guest speakers who have enriched this program with your time and expertise. The IMSD program had a significant impact on empowering the careers of many scientists, thanks to all the people working together and contributing to it.
